Can Dad go away so long:

Thank you for your suggestions.  I can't think of any loving father I know who would leave his only child for six months. So needless to say he would not want her to go with him. As for organising phone contact…gulp….I am certain that the first thing he would say to that would be "don't tell me what to do!" No I'm sure he WILL phone her AND miss her desperately, make lots of very genuine promises….until he returns.  Then the reality of his personality disorder kicks in and he flees back to his comfort zone.  Very very sad indeed. But I DO agree with the courts for once…..contact with ones child IS a privilege…..and one that I enjoy greatly. This site has reinforced that for me.

Can Dad go away so long: Father taking long overseas holiday

My 11 yo daughter's father has told her that he intends to retire soon and take a long overseas holiday.  She is quite upset that he is prepared to leave her for such a long time.  The current court orders are for him to see her every second weekend only.  Does he legally have to ask for the orders to be changed to accommodate his absence or can he come and go as he pleases?
