Sex therapist Bettina Arndt has been tipped as the favourite to replace newly-elected NSW MP Pru Goward as federal sex-discrimination commissioner. Ms Arndt, 58, is said to be Prime Minister John Howard's favoured candidate for the position, with Mr Howard poised to hand-pick the next commissioner, she is a clinical psychologist and social commentator and edited the controversial Australian Forum magazine for four years. She has been a great advocate for shared parenting and has taken up many issues around the Family Court and Child Support Agency.

It is an interesting case to review the complex issues surrounding any relocation and in particular the decision making around the Presumption of equal shared parental responsibility in section 60CC (2)(3) and (4) of the Act. Having found against the presumption he must consider the matters under sections 60CC(2) (3) and (4) of the Act to make an order in the childs best interest having regard to the competing proposals of the parties.

Federal Labor Announces National Men's Health Policy

Shadow Minister for Health Nicola Roxon today announced that a Rudd Labor Government would develop a National Men's Health Policy. Australia's first - and to date, only - National Women's Health Policy was launched under a previous Labor Government in 1989, but a National Men's Health Policy is needed to deal with issues affecting men's health.

Federal Labor acknowledges that too little attention has been given to men's health needs. Some health issues - like prostate cancer - affect only men while other health issues - such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and injuries - affect more men than women.

Federal Magistrates guidelines for litigants contacting FM's

All parties and practitioners should otherwise understand the basis upon which contact with Federal Magistrates (via their Associates) about substantive matters should - or should not - occur. All such communication must be undertaken with care to ensure that the impartiality and integrity of the Court is not undermined (see R v Fisher [2009] VSCA 100; R v Phillips [2009] QCA 57 and John Holland Rail Pty Ltd v Comcare [2011] FCAFC 34). It is not usually appropriate for any party (or any legal practitioner) to contact an Associate of a Federal Magistrate about a matter unless all parties are in agreement that this is appropriate and for good reason. If agreement cannot be reached and the issue cannot otherwise be resolved then the Associate may be contacted to arrange for the matter to be listed for directions provided that all parties are advised of the request

Missing six-year-old found in Amsterdam

Almost three years after his son went missing, former NSW deputy fire chief Ken Thompson has learned the six-year-old boy is in Amsterdam. Fairfax reported on Thursday that a school principal in northern Europe became suspicious after noticing Andrew's passport had expired, following an attempt to enrol him at the school. The Australian Federal Police issued a warrant for Ms Stratton's arrest and Interpol managed to trace her to Frankfurt in Germany.
