In England, the anti-father forces are gathering for their fight against paternal involvement in childrens lives. This of course has been going on ever since the Cameron/Clegg government announced its intention to ignore the non-recommendations of its own commission that looked into the matter of child custody and, against all the odds, found everything regarding father-child access to be fine and dandy, thank you.

Justice Peter Murphy has slammed two sisters for "holding a gun" to the head of the court - and the heads of their parents - in a bizarre custody case. He spoke after the teenagers took their case to the Family Court, in a bid to leave their mother to live with their wealthy father on the Gold Coast. The girls, aged 14 and 15, have been brought up almost solely by their mum since their parents split up 10 years ago. It is an unusual case that is being closely watched by family law experts as the court has to weigh up the wishes of the children with what is in their best interests. While the case has yet to be heard in full, the judge said that in the interim the sisters had to go home to their mother while still being able to see their father.

Independent MLC Ann Bressington has asked questions in the South Australian parliament, of the South Australian Police Minister, in the apparent failure to properly investigate a serious case of child abuse on behalf of a constituent. Ann advised the minister that four weeks ago a distressed father contacted her office regarding the mother of his four year old daughter allegedly attempting to perform female circumcision on the little girl with a kitchen knife in the shower of her home. The girl's older brother, aged six, witnessed the incident and a medical report from the Lyell McEwin Hospital assessed the child to be at risk. Last week (approximately four weeks after the incident) police interviewed the child and told the father, `This is a cultural issue. We don't expect this to go any further.' When the father pointed out that the six year old brother saw it and had stated this, he was told, `Well, children say things sometimes, you know.' He was also told that the mother was asked if she did it and she had said `No', and that it would not be pursued any further.

In one case the mother does not appear to be in police custody, so possibly still with the children and a risk to them. A father in another case who was fighting for custody of his son has been banned from seeing the boy after he wrote a song sympathising with child murderer Arthur Freeman. The woman has been charged with three counts of attempted murder after allegedly trying to kill herself and her three children by driving into a tree. The father in the other matter will be allowed only to send the boy birthday and Christmas presents and be given an updated photo of him once a year.

A judge recently took the drastic step of ordering that a girl, eight, who had lived with her mother since her parents separated when she was 13 months, instead live with her father.

In the USA several hundred Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses feature misleading, father-bashing ads purporting to address the serious issue of domestic violence. Two major billboard companies - Clear Channel Outdoor and CBS Outdoorhave already rejected these ads. Jodi Senese of CBS said the ads "can be both misleading and disturbing." Internationally-recognized domestic violence expert John Hamel explains: Men account for half of all DV victims and incur a third of DV-related injuries. Ignoring female-on-male violence inhibits our efforts to combat domestic violence.

Almost a quarter of paternity tests conducted by one of Australia's largest DNA laboratory companies show the man submitting a sample is not the father, compared to an estimated one in 10 "exclusions" 10 years ago. The number of tests taken in Australia has doubled from 3000 in 2003 to more than 6000 last year. Thousands of men are turning to DIY testing kits - available online - to discover whether they are the biological father while they are still in a relationship and without telling their partners about their suspicions. Some have brought up children to adulthood or paid tens of thousands of dollars in maintenance to the Child Support Agency (CSA) before finding out they have no genetic link.
