This event is aimed at drawing together researchers, policy makers, funding bodies and service providers with grandparents to examine the issues and needs of grandparents who are raising their grandchildren; providing child care to their grandchildren and/or denied the right to see their grandchildren. Workshops will be provided in which grandparents will have the opportunity to share their stories.
The Minister for Ageing and Disability, Minister Keneally, will open the forum. Keynote speakers will be Professor Bettina Cass from the Social Policy Research Centre, University of NSW and David Hardie, benefactor of the COTA (NSW) Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Project.
Author and psychologist, Helene Gonski, will talk on The Delights and Difficulties of Grandparenting while Professor Sol Encel, Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Sue Field, Public Trustee NSW Fellow in Elder Law at University Western Sydney will speak on Grandparents Rights and Responsibilities.
