Tanya Plibersek saidDear Greg,
Thank you for your email. The real difference between violence against women and men is that most violence between men occurs in public between strangers. Most violence against women and children is perpetrated by someone they know, usually a close family member. That means a policing response is appropriate for violence against men, but that violence against women and children, happening behind closed doors needs additional responses as well as policing.
Any education campaign that aims to reduce violent behaviour will obviously have benefits for both men and women.
