A CLIMATE OF BELIEF

With Special Guests:

- Bettina Arndt

- Professor Bob Carter

- Warwick Marsh

- Peter van de Voorde

Once more, a very colourful Dads On The Air show.

We start with columnist Bettina Arndt, who has just finished a book called The Sex Diaries on how couples negotiate sex. Then we interview one of the world's leading critics of global warming alarmism, Professor Bob Carter from James Cook University in Queensland. Dads On The Air has been fascinated by global warming deniers for one simple reason: the single scariest thing about climate change is that if the deniers are right, hundreds of millions of people have been fooled into believing an apocalyptic tale without basis and governments are spending billions of dollars on a myth.

The emissions trading scheme being planned by the Rudd government for Australia is likely to create economic chaos for no gain. The formation of mass public delusions is of particular relevance to fathers, who have suffered through a blizzard of dishonest public beliefs, from the easily disproved but widespread claim that one in three women are victims of domestic violence to the eqally farcical claims that family courts and child support agencies act in the best interests of children and that fathers are not necessary in children's lives.

We also talk with Warwick Marsh from the Fatherhood Foundation about the up and coming International Men's Day.

And we close the show talking with long time contributor Peter van de Voorde, who has spoken out about a particularly outrageous US advertising campaign. Unfortunately, Australia is heading down the same sad track.

First up, as Bettina Arndt notes in her research:

The number one sexual problem plaguing women is low libido. That means couples everywhere are struggling with a mismatch in desire. What's it like having to grovel for sexual favours from the woman you love? Here's a man talking about how this makes him feel:

"I am totally at a loss as to what to do, I do love her and I think she loves me but I cannot live like a monk. I have deliberately tried not to mention sex much at all but now I am so frustrated I don't know what to do. I am at breaking point. I cannot and will not continue on like this. I refuse to go through life begging."

Many men will relate.

Now is their chance to have their say. She is now on to her new project - focussing oin men.

Here's what she has to say:

Bettina Arndt seeks volunteers for research on men and sexuality. Bettina Arndt, well-known social commentator and former sex therapist, has just completed research which involved couples keeping diaries on negotiating their sex supply.  Her book, The Sex Diaries, will be published in March, 2009

Her new project - The Male Sex Diaries  is all about men, their wants and desires. She's looking for men willing to write about their experiences.  What's it like to be a young man with an ever-ready erection? What do men look for in a lover? Are women difficult to please?  There's a whole range of issues she wants you to write about in your diaries and she'd love your partner to be part of the process.

Taking part in the diary project is a great way to open up communication and ease tensions over sex. Many of the couples who took part in the first project reported their sex lives had improved; they gained new insights and became more relaxed with each other. And sexual frequency started to escalate as the process of writing and talking about sex became a very effective start to foreplay!

This new project will pay particular attention to the intriguing triangle  between the man, his penis and his partner. With every second man over fifty having erection problems, growing numbers of couples are dealing with stressful emotions triggered by a man's faltering sexual prowess.  A woman in bed with an unresponsive penis may simply not know what to do.  She's fearful of making him feel worse. He's pretending not to notice. Neither is prepared to talk about it. The tension rises.

Bettina wants to use the sex diaries to find out how men and women cope with this difficult situation.  Her previous research showed the diaries are a powerful tool for illuminating the intricacies of intimate sexual relationships.  They tell us what is going on in his head - and in hers. Now they will unravel some of the mysteries of men and erections: what happens between the couple when a man starts having trouble with erections; what's it like to be a single man who can't get it up or a single woman dealing with a new lover whose erection is faltering and how cancer treatments impact on this sexual triangle.

The diaries will also tell us more about what's happening when couples start to use the new drugs - V1agra, Cialis, Livitra and Cavaject. These are miraculous treatments yet there's a mystery.  Almost a half of all men who start taking these drugs give up on them.  So what's going on here?  Is this high rejection rate something to do with the reaction of their women to the rejuvenated penis? The Sex Diaries showed many of the men flying high on their new lease of sexual life are brought swiftly to earth by sexually disinterested partners.

Here's our chance to find out how women actually feel and how men cope in these circumstances.

So the Male Sex Dairy Project is seeking men dealing with all these sexual issues to keep diaries - and write about their experiences.

Plus we want partners willing to write about their reactions.  YOU CAN HELP WITH THIS IMPORTANT NEW RESEARCH.

Professor Bob Carter Carter could well be described as 'a prominent research geologist with a personal interest in the issue of climate change', from his list of research papers. He has extensive experience of paleoclimatic research. In 2005 Carter was appointed by the Australian Minister for Environment, Ian Campbell, as a judge for the Australian Government Peter Hunt Eureka Prize for Environmental Journalism.

In January 2006 Carter told the Australian newspaper that "atmospheric CO2 is not a primary forcing agent for temperature change," arguing instead that "any cumulative human signal is so far undetectable at a global level and, if present, is buried deeply in the noise of natural variation".

In March 2007 the Sydney Morning Herald reported that "Professor Carter told the Herald yesterday (March 14th 2007) the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change had uncovered no evidence the warming of the planet was caused by human activity. He said the role of peer review in scientific literature was overstressed, and whether or not a scientist had been funded by the fossil fuel industry was irrelevant to the validity of research. "I don't think it is the point whether or not you are paid by the coal or petroleum industry," said Professor Carter. "I will address the evidence."

As he wrote in the British newspaper The Telegraph:

"For many years now, human-caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. In truth, however, the biggest part of the problem is neither environmental nor scientific, but a self-created political fiasco. Consider the simple fact, drawn from the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero).

"Yes, you did read that right. And also, yes, this eight-year period of temperature stasis did coincide with society's continued power station and SUV-inspired pumping of yet more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

"In response to these facts, a global warming devotee will chuckle and say "how silly to judge climate change over such a short period". Yet in the next breath, the same person will assure you that the 28-year-long period of warming which occurred between 1970 and 1998 constitutes a dangerous (and man-made) warming. Tosh. Our devotee will also pass by the curious additional facts that a period of similar warming occurred between 1918 and 1940, well prior to the greatest phase of world industrialisation, and that cooling occurred between 1940 and 1965, at precisely the time that human emissions were increasing at their greatest rate.

"Does something not strike you as odd here? That industrial carbon dioxide is not the primary cause of earth's recent decadal-scale temperature changes doesn't seem at all odd to many thousands of independent scientists. They have long appreciated - ever since the early 1990s, when the global warming bandwagon first started to roll behind the gravy train of the UN Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - that such short-term climate fluctuations are chiefly of natural origin. Yet the public appears to be largely convinced otherwise. How is this possible?

"Since the early 1990s, the columns of many leading newspapers and magazines, worldwide, have carried an increasing stream of alarmist letters and articles on hypothetical, human-caused climate change. Each such alarmist article is larded with words such as "if", "might", "could", "probably", "perhaps", "expected", "projected" or "modelled" - and many involve such deep dreaming, or ignorance of scientific facts and principles, that they are akin to nonsense.

"The problem here is not that of climate change per se, but rather that of the sophisticated scientific brainwashing that has been inflicted on the public, bureaucrats and politicians alike. Governments generally choose not to receive policy advice on climate from independent scientists. Rather, they seek guidance from their own self-interested science bureaucracies and senior advisers, or from the IPCC itself. No matter how accurate it may be, cautious and politically non-correct science advice is not welcomed in Westminster, and nor is it widely reported."

The ever heroic Warwick Marsh from the Fatherhood Foundation will also be talking about International Men's Day, to be held on the 19th November 2008

Here's his release:

International Men's Day will have its inaugural celebration in Australia on 19th November 2008.

Russian President, Mikhail Gorbachev, first called for an international day to celebrate men in 1999 at the United Nations in Vienna. International Men's Day is celebrated on many different dates around the world with varying degrees of success.

To help standardize International Men's Day and increase its success the Indian 'Save the Family Foundation'
launched an international campaign and called for the celebration of International Men's Day on 19th November along with Pakistan, Trinidad and Tabago.

Australia is joining with India, which has the second largest male population in the world, to call other countries around the world to make 19th November 2008  a day to honour men for the contribution they make to their family, friends, work, community and nation.

Warwick Marsh, from the Dads4Kids Fatherhood Foundation said, "We contacted the leaders of the Save the Family Foundation in India, the leading advocates for International Men's Day, before sharing the vision with several leaders in the Australian men and father's movement at the National Shared Parenting Conference in Gosford, NSW on 14th June 2008. The response in Australia for an International Men's Day has been really positive. Already in Australia we have watched the phenomenal expansion of Movember, which promotes men's health, so it's great to see all these things happening for men in the month of November. Movember is exploding in influence around the world."

Mr Marsh continued, "The 19th November is historically a day of great significance for every Australian. In 1941 it was the day that the HMAS Sydney II was lost. The 19th November 2008 commemorates the loss of 645 men when the HMAS Sydney sank off the coast of Western Australia, the
greatest  loss of men's lives on any one day by Australian forces in World War II."

"The theme for the International Men's Day 2008 is 'Honour and Sacrifice'. This commemorates what our Aussie men, sons, fathers and grandfathers, both past and present, have sacrificed for their families, communities and nation," Mr Marsh said.

"We call on other countries to join in solidarity to celebrate the positive contribution that men make to the world on International Men's Day, Wednesday 19th November 2008."

And we close the show talking with Peter van de Voorde about the Orwellian and astonishingly sexist advertisements being run on the sides of buses in Dallas. Faces of Innocent looking children stare out from the posters, with the words: "When I grow up I will beat my wife" and "One Day My Husband Will Kill Me".

The hatred of men has reached new levels.

As Peter wrote to the managers of the company:

Ignorance, bigotry and malevolence, appear to be alive and well in your organisation.

That you see nothing wrong in promoting a divisive father bashing advertising campaign, would indicate an alarming lack of understanding, of how those that promote hatred amongst members of our human society operate.

Divide and conquer is their motto, as they steadily erode the human values of a particular disadvantaged group in our human family.

That you have allowed yourself and your company to become complicit in this hate campaign, will possibly lead to a modern day Rosa Parks protest, and may in time destroy your company. History has recorded your actions and events will dictate what happens next.

Your shallow thinking has overlooked the fact that all men and fathers have mothers, sisters, grandmothers, wives, partners, sons and daughters, who are equally apalled by this attack on our human dignity and values.

The fact that news of your abhorrent actions has spread around the world, perhaps shows you that narrow minded behaviour of this kind, is no longer accepted by an informed global community.
