Some Humourous Statistics

Did you know that one quarter of SRLs have the surname 'My'.

We frequently receive documents titled 'My Affidavit' and 'My Orders' -which makes them a little difficult to sort through.

About 10% of SRLs that use 'Word' forget they live in Australia and send documents in US letter and US Dictionary format.

Can you tell my how to stop my Word 2007 changing itself back to US formats when it wants. I have tried setting the default for the chosen Dic format, date and the like but from time to time I find it changes back.

Is it in the startup files somewhere? If so do you know where?
Did you buy it or were you given it? If you purchased it, it is not meant to happen, but if a friend "lent" you a copy, thats the cause

ts impossible to stop,  dont even bother trying, even if it works for a few days it ALWAYS changes back to the US one.. It does not matter what you do

thats my experience anyway

They must find it difficult, those who have taken authority as the truth, rather than truth as the authority

Yes Art   it may be, but there are others better and more interested in that type of work than I.

If I remember correctly, when you install a program there is a preferences page or 2, is there any way to get to that preferences page in the root directory of the program to correct the preference of font, language, date appearance, etc?

Could it be in the Windows fills, if so where?

NJ as another poster said - it depends where your copy came from. During installation it would have asked 'Location'. If Australia - by default it would have installed paper size defaults as metric, the Macqarie dictionary and Australian date formatting.

Reinstal it.

Trial versions default to US after the trial period

Check your Windows International settings

You can still use the 'equivalents' to styles and template.dot in Word 2007

That is what I just said about the defaults at install, but will you remind me of where to finf the msconf that can be edited to the new location and date format? This will save reinstillation.

Will you tell me where the International setting are because I can not remember?

It seems your knowledge and application of Family Law is only exceeded by your computer knowledge.
Conan that wasnt very helpful, though you would be surprised that the help files are availible to everyone and they dont use them ever.Help files they are availble to you at any time of day and have accurate descriptions on how to solve common windows based issues. If you have and install problem or a software problem I would suggets visiting manufacters website and forums. Also the whirlpool.net.au forums are great place for technical questions.

Assuming that you have windows xp here are the help answers.
In Microsoft Windows XP
Exit all Microsoft Office programs.
Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
Click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options, and then click Regional and Language Options.
Note   In Classic view, double-click Regional and Language Options.

On the Regional Options tab, select the country/region that you want to use in the list under Standards and formats.

Please note that if you wish to change your default language you must change your default region like above.

You can also change your language in the toolbar at the bottom if the language bar is there.

Rarghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Han Solo routine "We're all fine here, thanks. How are you?" *weapons fire* "It was a boring conversation anyway!"
Thanks Monster, I don't need to go there often and have bigger things on my mind than computer settings and yes the regonal setting were USA.

Conan thanks for being your usualhelpful productive self, 1 day you might  :ninja:

Conan thanks for being your usual helpful productive self.

The pleasure was mine. Do I get a tin star? I am still wondering why this is in an SRL area and not Hyde Park Corner.
We are very much off topic but since on occasions we receive some dreadfully formatted documents here are some updates for Word 2007.

If this is installed with full defaults, the bottom of the Word screen actually enables you to choose the dictionary. Swapping from Australian English to US does not change the default paper size from A4 because this setting (under XP) is collected from your 'default' in Word 2007 -which overrides any Control Panel settings.

If you use the automatic spell checker (correct as you type) the dictionary is the one you have selected at the bottom of thr Word screen. If you run a manual spell and grammar check - Word offers you the choice of Language again.

The reason for this apparent overkill is in fact the sophistication of Word allowing you to check parts of a document that may be in different languages.

Another error that can occur is if people have selected a printer paper size different form the Word document ie you have selected American letter instead of A4.

At SRL-R we actually request documents to be submitted in Word 95 or preferably Word 97-2003 format (not 'docx' as in Word 2007)

We can actually receive documents in most formats -even going back to Wordstar 4 and Wordperfect 5.0 days

Now - does anyone have a copy of Word for Windows 2?
