Re: Gordon Wood/Caroline Bryne Murder Trial

Hi All,

I spent a considerable amount of time last year sitting in on the Gordon Wood/Caroline Bryne murder trial at the Supreme Court.

After listening to much of the evidence, in my opinion, there is no way Gordon Wood should have been found guilty of the murder of Caroline Bryne.

The Crown's evidence was mostly circumstantial. The Crown presented witnesses and reports that were often contradictory, inaccurate and madeerrorsin fact.

From where I sat, there was more than a 'reasonable doubt' that Wood murdered Bryne. How the Jury found a him guilty of murder is beyond me.

I did notice early in thepiece that the Jury members did not look Wood in the eye at anytime during the trial. This suggested to me at the time, and before much of the evidence against Wood was presented by the Crown, that they believed him to be guilty. So the guilty verdict was unsurprising to me - but none-the-less - shocking!

Another observationmade wasthat there were aspects of thetrial thatwere conducted at the lower standard by comparison to some of thehearings I have witnessed in the Family Court.

For the most part, the trial was an absolute circus. So-called 'celebrities' were carted into court to give evidence - which amounted to baised opinion and observations.

No one actually saw Wood do anything. The only thing he did do was to lead Police to the Gap where he thought Bryne was, after searching the entire Eastern Suburbs for her and locating hercar parked at the Gap.

I guess the moral of the story is this - if a loved onegoes missing and is found dead at the bottom of a cliff - pray someone else finds them beforeyou do!

Hell - best not look for them at all! (…or is that suspicious?)

Three words for you …. 'Miscarriage of Justice'.

There would be a perception that beautiful people do not have problems and do not kill themselves.

Perception and personal belief strongly colour judgement and compelling evidence is required to overcome this. This is especially true in family law.

We are conditioned to believe that all mothers are loving and nurturing and all fathers are protective and strong, and this is not always the case.

Ordinary people get set up every single day all over the world for crimes they did not commit i have no doubt at that at all, i could point you in the direction of a famous australian situation of recent years where, quite clearly the person who was found guilty did not do it at all, They were miles away, did not look like the killer, and they didnt have the mental capacity to do it…… They confessed after being deprived of sleep for days and…. evidence was tampered with, witheld and a whole heap more,  Its a shocking story and because of it an innocent person is labelled one of the nastiest pieces of work ever to have been born in this country, and is in jail for the rest of their life for doing nothing except confessing under duress

It literally can happen to anyone, and if you dont think so, just look at the IRA set ups of the 70's, The murder of Jill Dando and a whole lot more

Gooner, I believe you may be referring to that Vietnamese guy who got done for the murder of that Counsellor? The way that investigation was conducted was shocking. I am confident he will eventually be acquitted.

Artemis - Yes well, it didn't seem relevant to anyone that Caroline Bryne's mother committed suicide or that Caroline Bryne had been treated only months earlier suffering suicidal ideation. In fact, I think she may have unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide previously! I'll need to check that.

Before the jury was sent to deliberate the verdict, the magistrate would have instructed them. Whether they regarded their advice or not is another question.

I know of a political trial in Qld where it only took one juror with a strong personality and with vested interest to sway the jury.

Artemis - The Jury was objectivity was tainted by 10 years of previous media coverage on the matter.

4my, no im not referring to him, i wont say who on here but if you want to know the shocking story drop me a whisper. I just dont want to offend ayone on here, but then again. we all know from our experiences which led us to here that sometimes the truth is stranger than.

This person is probably the most notorious killer this country has supposedly ever had, and he is 100% innocent IMO and in the opinion of many others.
