Debtor dads are skipping the country

http://www.news.com.au/ have a Child Support related article posted today titled "Debtor dads are skipping the country".  When you click to read the article the title changes to "Parents owing welfare support flee overseas" and the article does indeed talk about DPO's enforced on parents, not dads.  I wonder why they chose to alienate dads in the first place?
I think from memory and what seems to be the norm is there are a higher number of dads as payers than mums and society still prefers to see the dead beat dad instead of a dead beat mum as well. same goes for abuse that we prefer to see the male abuser than the female because there is a higher number of them. I have seen several news sites and general websites changing the names of articles because they are realising they are singling out the males, but unfortunately I believe it will still be dads and males who are referred to most for quite some time.

Probably.

It's a shame we can't get statistics on the number of women using children as cash cows thus denying males the opportunity to see them. I have no doubt that this scenario occurs frequently and that this is one of the main reasons why males make up the greater proportion of debtors.  I guess the perception that males are doing the wrong thing will never change until the courts get tough on women who abuse their children to get back at ex lovers.

It would have been News Corp's (probably female) night sub-editor for the website that changed the headline. I've seen this very frequently from the media, especially News Corp and even more especially the Courier Mail, although the CM has improved a bit of late. What seems to happen is that a press release is received and the sub revs it up a bit for the headline, sometimes even re-writing the PR to change the emphasis, which is then pulled when the editor arrives later in the day and sees the emails complaining about it. There seems to be a group of young, feminist subs that organisations like CSA and some of the activist radfem and Mother's Rights groups can rely on to get a story published. It's not surprising, given the sort of indoctrinaire training these people are given at uni, but it's disturbing to think that these people will one day be in charge of making the final decisions on such matters. Let's hope they learn from the on-the-job training they're getting.

More generally though, the news media has improved its game in terms of allowing vilification of men as a part of their normal fare. People like Deveny and Overington have managed to shoot themselves in the foot and have had their platform removed. Deveny is gone for good and Overington has been "promoted" from columnist to "media diary". Even Horin has been told to tone it down.

I think it reflects a genuine recognition within the bureaucratic/media complex that a cultural change is necessary and that alienating men has proven to be a spectacularly bad idea. There are enough genunely intelligent people in media who would be horrified at the way in which their industry has allowed itself to be used to produce propaganda for a sectional interest for so long, so cheaply. Once upon a time, a journalist took pride in reporting facts - far too many of today's crop seem to think they are "social constructionalists" rather than reporters.
oh yes haknbakr, I know many single dads mostly through my partner and some of their ex's are real walking horror stories in the way they manipulate the system to either cause harm to ex or to benefit themselves. My ex is the male version of the money sucking mothers, every chance he gets he files a new COA with csa with the most ridiculous claims even when he knows it's not true, he manipulates centrelink to get every last cent he can and extra benefits.
It would be interesting to see statistics if there were any on how many female payers there are to males and also how many unsubstantiated coa there are by male and females. csa has to set up a proper fraud area one day and that would be interesting to see too.
I even wonder how many people marked as the payer would be able to stand up and say I've been treated like dirt by csa, I'm marked as a payer even though ex earns 20k more than me a year because of him defrauding centrelink, ato and csa. I pay nothing luckily because I can prove that I still don't earn much but I find on any level about complaining to csa I am treated like dirt and that my complaints are a joke.

i finally have proof of ex's income but with my current family law matter it's better to focus my energy there than with csa and I've gone without a cent from him and even paid him for so long, it just seems fruitless now. what are the chances of being heard anyway when your the payer?
