Change of Name after previous consent

An Interesting 'Soloman' Judgment

The attached is a case where the Child was first registered with the surname of the Mother with the Fathers agreement. The Father sought to get the name changed and the Federal Magistrate ordered that the child be given a hyphenated name with the Father and Mother's last name.

As the Magistrate said; neither of the parties won their case - but we could say that the child did! at least there is little chance of further dispute

This judgment also contains some case law regarding name changes and anyone with this potential problem would be advised to follow those cases up.
